Albanian Riviera Group Tour: 5-Day Itinerary by Coach

Last updated: October 2026 · Written by the Dida Travel & Tours team, a family-run group transport company based in Durrës since 1990.

An Albanian Riviera group tour takes you along one of the most beautiful coastlines in the Mediterranean – from the bay of Vlorë over the Llogara Pass to the white beaches of Dhërmi, Himarë and Ksamil. Below is a tested 5-day itinerary by coach or minibus, with driving times, highlights and practical tips for group leaders.

Quick answer: The best Albanian Riviera group tour takes 5 days: Tirana or Durrës → Vlorë (day 1), Llogara Pass and Dhërmi (day 2), Himarë and Porto Palermo (day 3), Sarandë, the Blue Eye and Ksamil (day 4) and Butrint before returning north (day 5). Travel in May, June or September for warm water and fewer crowds.

5-day Albanian Riviera group tour itinerary

Day 2 – Llogara Pass and Dhërmi

Drive south through Orikum and climb the Llogara Pass for the famous viewpoint. Descend to Dhërmi and Jale for a beach afternoon. Overnight in Dhërmi or Himarë.

Day 3 – Himarë, Porto Palermo and Borsh

Walk up to Himarë Castle, then visit Porto Palermo fortress on its small peninsula. Lunch in Borsh, home to one of the longest beaches on the coast. Continue to Sarandë (about 1.5 hours).

Morning visit to the Blue Eye spring (about 40 minutes from Sarandë). Afternoon swimming and seafood in Ksamil. Sunset back on the Sarandë promenade.

Day 5 – Butrint and return north

Early visit to Butrint National Park before the heat. Return north via Gjirokastër, another UNESCO-listed town, or continue to Greece. Arrival in Tirana or Durrës in the evening (about 4.5–5 hours of driving).

Coach or minibus for the Riviera?

The main coastal road (SH8) is suitable for full-size coaches, including the Llogara Pass. A 50-seat coach is the most economical choice for large groups. For groups under 20, or if you want to reach smaller beaches and villages, a minibus is more flexible. Compare the options in our guide to minibus rental with driver.

Tips for group leaders

  • Start early in July and August – roads and beaches are quieter before 10:00.
  • Book hotels with coach parking or a drop-off point nearby; some seafront streets are pedestrian in summer.
  • Plan driver breaks – the scenic stops on Llogara and in Borsh double as rest stops.
  • Bring cash for beach chairs and small restaurants in villages.
  • Combine the coast with history: see our guide to UNESCO heritage tours in Albania.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do you need for the Albanian Riviera?

Five days is ideal for a group: enough time to drive the coast from Vlorë to Ksamil, visit Butrint and the Blue Eye, and still enjoy free beach time. Three days is possible but rushed.

When is the best time for an Albanian Riviera group tour?

May, June and September are the best months for groups: warm sea, fewer crowds and easier hotel availability. July and August are the hottest and busiest months.

Can a 50-seat coach drive the Albanian Riviera?

Yes, the main SH8 coastal road over the Llogara Pass is suitable for full-size coaches. Some beach access roads are narrow, so for small villages a minibus or a short local shuttle works better.

Is Butrint worth visiting with a group?

Yes. Butrint National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian remains. Allow two to three hours and consider a local licensed guide.

Can the tour continue to Corfu or Greece?

Yes. Ferries run from Sarandë to Corfu, and the road border to Greece is about an hour from Sarandë, so the Riviera combines easily with a Greece extension.
